Why Does My Suspension Creak After Installing Coilovers or Lowering Springs?
Just installed new coilovers, lowering springs, or control arms, but now your car makes a creaking or popping noise over bumps?
It doesn't always mean the new suspension parts are defective.
One commonly overlooked issue is suspension bushing preload.
Many factory control arms use bonded rubber bushings that twist as the suspension moves. If these bushings are tightened while the vehicle is lifted with the wheels hanging, they can become preloaded at normal ride height.
This can contribute to:
• Creaking or squeaking suspension noises
• Premature control arm bushing wear
• Unwanted suspension stiffness
• Restricted suspension movement
• Changes in ride quality
At Midnite Auto, we pay attention to ride-height torque procedures when installing suspension components. Bushings that require loaded tightening are torqued at their specified suspension position to avoid unnecessary stress.
We also check spring seating, strut mounts, sway bar end links, and hardware torque when diagnosing suspension noises.
Whether you're installing BC Racing coilovers, KW suspension, Öhlins, or lowering springs, proper installation matters just as much as the parts themselves.
