• A sensor that's no longer reading correctly

Some issues are minor, while others can lead to poor performance, reduced fuel economy, or costly repairs if ignored.

One important tip: If the Check Engine Light is flashing instead of staying solid, stop driving as soon as it's safe to do so. A flashing light often indicates an active engine misfire that can damage the catalytic converter.
